General
Paediatric
Surgeries

includes the common pediatric surgical problems usually involing the intestines, limbs and other parts of the body

Circumcision

A minor surgical procedure to excise the excess skin over the glans penis or prepuce.

Inguinal Hernia

Usually a routine surgery but may become an emergency if obstructed or strangulated.

Hydrocele

Can wait up to 2 years of age, if not resolved spontaneously, should undergo surgery.

Undescended Testes

Should be operated within 12 months of age, if delayed permanent loss of function occurs.

Rectal Polyp

Painless bleeding during defecation. If untreated may lead to anemia & growth failure.

Appendicitis

Emergemcy. May resolve with treatment, if not, appendectomy is indicated.

Intussusception

Surgical emergency. Should be operated as soon as possible to prevent permanent damage.

Hirschsprung Disease

Congenital defects cause severe constipation. Requires surgery in multiple stages.

Intestinal Malrotation

Defective rotation of gut during development. Needs surgical correction. 

Necrotizing Enterocolitis

Emergency. May need surgical intervention. Poor prognosis.

Anorectal Malformation

Congenital absence of anus in its normal position. Needs immidiate surgery.

Hirschsprung Disease

Congenital defects cause severe constipation. Requires surgery in multiple stages.

Omphalocele

Protrusion of intestine through the umbilicus covered with a membrane. Emergency.

Gastroschisis

Protrusion of intestine through the umbilicus without any membrane. Needs emergency surgery.

Meconium Ileus

Intestinal obstruction due to thick, turr like meconium. Needs emergency surgery.

Intestinal Atresia

Complete obstruction of intestine due to congenital causes. Needs urgent surgery.

Duodenal Atresia

Complete obstruction of intestine due to congenital causes. Needs urgent surgery.

Pyloric Stenosis (IHPS)

Narrowing of pylorus of stomach causes severe vomiting. Needs surgery.

Intestinal Obstruction

Can be caused due to various reasons like congenital bands and adhesion. Needs surgery.

Necrotizing Enterocolitis

Emergency. May need surgical intervention. Poor prognosis.

Hepatobiliary
Surgeries

includes the common pediatric surgical problems involving the liver, biliary channels, pancreas and spleen. Some are congeital and others are acquired

Gall Bladder Stone

Rare in children. If present needs evaluation for hematological disease. Surgery is recommended.

Choledochal Cyst

Dilatation of the common bile duct. Needs MRCP to diagnose. Surgery recommended.

Splenomegaly

Enlarged spllen mostly due to hematological disroders. At a point needs surgery.

Biliary Atresia

Congenital obstruction of the biliary tract. Present with persistant jaundice. Needs multiple surgeries.

Pancreatic Pseudocyst

A complication of pancreatitis. May improve with conservative management. If not, surgery.

Portal Hypertension

Hypertension of portal system. May present with blood vomiting. May need surgery.

Minimal Invasive
Surgeries

surgeries done using modern technology like laparoscopy, endoscopy and cystoscopy. Ensure minimal pain and rapid recovery.

Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy

Rare in children. If present needs evaluation for hematological disease. Surgery is recommended.

Laparoscopic Appendectomy

Dilatation of the common bile duct. Needs MRCP to diagnose. Surgery recommended.

Laparoscopic Pyeloromyotomy

Enlarged spllen mostly due to hematological disroders. At a point needs surgery.

Cystoscopic Evaluation

PUJ obstruction

Protrusion of intestine through the umbilicus covered with a membrane. Emergency.

VUJ obstruction

Protrusion of intestine through the umbilicus without any membrane. Needs emergency surgery.

Vesicoureteric Reflux

Intestinal obstruction due to thick, turr like meconium. Needs emergency surgery.

Posterior Urethral Valve

Complete obstruction of intestine due to congenital causes. Needs urgent surgery.

Phimosis/Paraphimosis

Complete obstruction of intestine due to congenital causes. Needs urgent surgery.

Hydronephrosis
